The year of the Ox is approaching its end, and a heavy snowfall is falling in Yuezhong like it does in Youji. The frozen clouds have been lingering for ten days without any sign of dissipation, as they haphazardly pour down in a slanting manner, showing their immense momentum. The towering mountains are painted white with exquisite brilliance like fine pieces of pure jade and gemstones. There is no difference in color across thousands of worlds. The towering pine trees with broken branches lean over against the gorge, and the ground is covered with dead locusts hiding the ugly creatures. The world has changed direction from north to south, but there is still harmony within the cold winter weather. The white-haired elders gather to marvel at the sight, as it's truly strange and rare to see such a sight in a hundred years. Rumors say that the city is covered by snow up to three feet deep, and the narrow alleys are deeper, making it difficult to clean with a broom. Fishermen wear their bamboo-woven cloaks and get lost in their late-night return home, while children are so fascinated by the snow that they forget to sleep while reading books. Although I am cold and struggling, I feel proud and expansive as I climb up a storey and gaze at the snowy scene. I will not refuse a drink and take a sip of alcohol with my comrades, nor will I learn from Yuan An who stays indoors and stays closed off. As I am drunk and reclining on the ground, composing poems, suddenly a poem comes to me from the office of imperial secretaries. Mr. Zuo Si is both literate and martial, holding an important position in our country. His pure spirit radiates like a cold river, and he scatters these snowflakes across the earth. The evil influences of war are completely washed away by the snow, even the deepest mountains and valleys are slowly being covered by it. Therefore, we know that this is a sign of good luck from heaven, and next year will be abundant and prosperous as we remember this moment.
